Over the past 8 months, members of the North East Lincolnshire Carers Employability Forum, Care Plus Employability Services and Focus, have been working collaboratively with the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education’s Media Department on a project to develop a short documentary film entitled ‘A Carers Journey into Employment’.
The project which promotes local partnership working will be used to highlight the opportunities available to carers including employment and holistic support within North East Lincolnshire, while also supporting the Grimsby Institute media students with a work experience project as part of their curriculum.
As part of the documentary film, the media students have filmed at various locations including Grimsby Jobcentre Plus, North East Lincolnshire Carer Support Service and Care Plus Employability Services. Sharon Stead, Care Plus Employability Services Manager said:-
“As it stands, the employment rate for carers in the UK is at 67%, over half of those who are not working say that they would like to. “Therefore, it is imperative that there is support available to support carer’s into training and employment opportunities which coincide with their caring role”. “Carers do an outstanding job caring for others and the documentary film is a brilliant way to help get the message across about the life of a carer”.
Marie Baker, Care Plus Employability Services Marketing and Performance Intern, and coordinator of the project stated; ‘The Grimsby Institute students have worked incredibly hard to create such an outstanding piece of work and all for a worthy cause. All students involved in the production of the documentary film should be proud of their achievement and for remaining committed, motivated and professional throughout the project.’
In recognition of the student’s commitment and hard work, a presentation and film premier was held on 25th June whereby Lance Gardner, CEO of Care Plus Group and Joe Warner, Managing Director of Focus presented the students with a certificate and gift voucher. The presentation showcased the finished product to all organisations involved.
