Care Coordinator Takes the Plunge for Charity

DAVID LAWSON, Care Coordinator at Open Door Services, will be taking a dive into the cold December waters of Grimsby docks to raise awareness and funds for the Living With and Beyond Cancer Team.

He’s calling it the “Dip a Day in December” and will be dropping himself into ice-cold waters in a few different locations across Grimsby and Cleethorpes. David will be committing to this for a full working week commencing Monday 5th December.

We asked David about his thoughts and motivation behind this; he said:

“I’m wanting to raise the funds for Living With and Beyond Cancer Team as they support people in the community with cancer. This is something very dear to my heart and personal within my own life. The effects of cancer touches many in life and the community.

“The idea for me taking part in this came from a friend in Ireland, called Mark, who began doing this every day in December to raise awareness of mental health and the impact it can have on your wellbeing. It really inspired it.

“I shall be taking a dip every day in Corporation Dock and the North Wall from Monday 5th December until the 9th – no matter what the temperature is!

“On the 10th of November, I am taking part in an event at the St James Hotel, in regards to the Living With and Beyond Cancer Team, and doing a talk on why I like the cold-water swimming I do.”
