Next week is the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Awareness Week and Care Plus Group has planned a range of activities to take place at Freeman Street Resource Centre in Grimsby to raise awareness of this disease.
There will be the chance to step back in time in a 1950’s style living room reminiscence pod, attend a Dementia Friends presentation as part of becoming a dementia friendly community, try Thi Chi or attend a relaxation session. Also, anyone attending one of the sessions or bringing in a photo of a memory will receive a free cake! (Kindly donated by ALDI, Morrison’s and Sainsbury’s.)
Donna Hill, Specialist Projects Manager at Care Plus Group who has co-ordinated activities for the week said:
“Care Plus Group wanted to mark Dementia Awareness Week because, as a care organisation working in the communities of North East Lincolnshire along with partner organisations, we need to raise awareness of this disease. In order to do this we are working to become a dementia friendly organisation and have already trained over 200 members of our staff to be ‘Dementia Friends’ and are members of the Dementia Action Alliance.
“We are hoping that as many people as possible will come along to the Resource Centre during the week. We have information stands and professionals on hand to offer advice as well as fun activities such as new age kurling and bowls.”
