Employability Success Story – Helen Garrett

Helen Garrett engaged with Employability Services to gain support to change career direction from support work into an Administrative role. This was to reduce the need to work unsociable hours and create a healthier work/life balance for herself and her family.

Helen has invested a lot of time and energy in recent months, upskilling her knowledge via various training courses with Think Employment; who referred Helen to Employability Services. Helen was unsure how to start her new career, believing she lacked hands on experience to back up her aspirations and was therefore looking to conduct a voluntary placement to fulfil this.

Whilst Helen was waiting for her placement to start, her Employability Support Officer; Tracy Chaplin, worked one on one to give support on how to utilise transferable skills from her previous working history into successful application forms and ultimately successful interviews.

Helen was ecstatic to learn that she had eventually been offered the role as an Apprentice Administration Assistant with IC@Home and said:
“I’ve been specifically looking for a training role and feel a lot more confident being on an Apprenticeship as a stepping stone to further my Career”.

Support Officer; Tracy Chaplin was full of praise for Helen and agreed:
“Helen has grown in confidence over the last few weeks and worked really hard in her search for the right role…I know she will do a wonderful job and be an asset to her new team”.
