Foundations Drug & Alcohol service were out in the community supporting the Tape2Tape Gruesome Twosome half marathon and 10k on Saturday 24 October.
As a service we promote active recovery and giving back to the wider community. As part of a client’s journey, we encourage them to get involved with community events.
Our task was to man water station 3 not far from Beelsby village about half way round the course. The 10k set off at 10.30 and they reached us by 11am. The first runners flew by us without stopping for water as they wanted to make a good time. The half marathon runners passed through from 12-1pm.
All the runners who wanted a well-deserved drink were able to get one form our table. The runners gave their thanks to our volunteers and said they appreciated our support. The support offered by the peers at Foundations enabled the organisers to fulfil their quota of volunteers that they rely on heavily to run such large events.
One of volunteers said “I have loved today. It motivated me to get up this morning. I feel really privileged to have taken part in such as event. I am looking forward to the next one.”
Another volunteer added “I was anxious about coming to help out as I didn’t know what to expect but now I am pleased I came along as it has been really enjoyable.”
The race organisers have contacted the service to express their gratitude. They received feedback form the runners to say the Foundations station was fabulous and that the volunteers had great fun.
Foundations peers and volunteers have received thanks for supporting the Tape2Tape event once again.
Everyone benefits from volunteering opportunities. For an individual it builds confidence & self-esteem, and it boosts self-worth.
