A Care Plus Group service is supporting this year’s National No Smoking Day with a host of activities at Freshney Place, Grimsby on March 12.

Hope Street Clinic, a specialist service focusing on falls and respiratory conditions is offering the opportunity for visitors to Freshney Place to have a free lung function test, have the carbon monoxide in their breath checked and receive specialist advice about smoking cessation.

Sheryl Rantell, COPD Nurse Specialist at Hope Street said:
“I would encourage anyone interested in the health of their lungs to come down on the day. Information and advice will be available from our specialist nurse, physiotherapists and the falls and respiratory collaborative.

“We have the opportunity for everyone having a lung function test to enter our free tombola, whilst prizes last.  Prizes have been kindly donated my many of the shops in and around Freshney Place, including Beauty Barn, Bags 4 U, Waterstones, Millies Cookies, Boots, HMV, Perfume Factory, The Works, Extreme Clothing, Muffin Break, Wilkinsons and Eskimoos.

“We will have a pair of giant (15ft by 13ft) walk through lungs providing visitors with an interactive, educational experience about the respiratory system. The MEGA Lungs are the world's only portable, inflatable, walk-through lung exhibit.

“There will also be a fun Blow Golf Game to see if you can beat our Buddies who have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD - a chronic lung disease, predominantly caused by smoking) and volunteer at Hope Street.”
