Matthew Smith– ‘Journey to Success’

Here is a smiling Matthew Smith with his presents, card and cakes given to him by his work colleagues as he successfully completes his Employability Supported Internship Placement.

Matthew, who is pictured with Supervisor Claire Smith of The Original Factory Shop in Cleethorpes, took part in his placement with the support of the Employability Services Supported Employment Team.

Matthew, who is also a student at Community Learning Services, started his six month Internship in November 2016 and was so successful at learning new skills within that role that his placement was extended a further two months until the end of his college summer term.

Matthews’ skills and confidence have improved greatly over the eight months and Matthews new catch-phrase is ‘I’ll do it!” which you can hear him often say whenever new tasks are given out at work.  Matthew’s social skills are also improved and he enjoys taking part in the work banter with his colleagues – his sense of humour is renowned within the team.

Claire Smith, Matthews Supervisor on his placement, said: “Matthew has really come out of himself by interacting with other members of staff.  He is also doing really well with stock merchandising.”

Matthews Employability Job Coach, Toni Davies, says: “Matthew has had a very successful eight months working at The Original Factory Shop.  He has matured in himself and now uses his own initiative when conducting tasks rather than waiting for someone to support him.  Having his own responsibilities was a challenge at first; however he rose to the challenge and now enjoys being a fully productive member of a team.  Well done Matthew!
