Michelle’s first introduction to Employability Services happened when she attended a Recruitment Fair in 2016.
At the time her goal was to work within administration, but as she had not worked in this field for many years, she was struggling to find an employer who would take her application seriously. As a single mum, in order to support herself and her disabled son, Michelle had worked within retail, but now felt it was time to work towards her personal aspirations.
Michelle initially was unsure as to whether a voluntary placement would be of benefit to her- however she decided to take the plunge – and she is so glad she did!!
Michelle’s Employability Support Officer arranged for her to meet with the manager of Bluebird Care, and right from the start, despite being extremely low in confidence, Michelle says she had a ‘good feeling’ about the organisation and the people she would be working with.
Michelle began her voluntary placement in March 2017 and was given a great deal of support from the team at Bluebird Care. Her mentor recognised the style in which Michelle learnt best and ensured that Michelle never felt overwhelmed. Over the following few months Michelle’s confidence increased and she went from strength to strength.
Michelle was absolutely delighted when she recently secured permanent paid employment at Bluebird Care.
Amanda Thomas, Employability Support Officer says, “Michelle has been an excellent participant who has worked extremely hard. It has been a pleasure to support her and I wish her every success for the future”.
