Marharyta began working with Employability Services in September 2022, after arriving in the UK from the Ukraine.
Despite having to leave her home, family and profession as a Dental Technician, Marharyta remained hopeful and optimistic about continuing her profession in the UK.
Initially, Marharyta experienced cultural and language barriers, but she overcame these by attending weekly English to Speakers of Other Languages classes at Learning4Life, where she met and socialised with fellow Ukrainian guests – this facilitated her confidence and self-esteem.
Eventually Marharyta’s English reached a level where she was able to attend a voluntary placement at a Dental Surgery to gain vital work experience in Odontology in the UK. Here she was able to utilise and implement her skills, experience, and qualifications, whilst gaining new skills and experience in a UK workplace environment bespoke to her profession.
After a few months of being on placement, Marharyta was offered a part time position as a Dental Technician.
Marharyta was overjoyed. She said:
“I am so happy that I can do the work I love here in the UK”.
When asked about this experience, Refugee Employability Support Officer, Helen said:
“It has been a pleasure to support Marharyta, her determination and positive approach shone throughout her journey, and I wish her every success in the future”.
