Last week local charity Care4all were left reeling from a break-in at their 4AllSeasons Garden Centre situated behind Cromwell Health & Wellbeing Centre. The garden centre was targeted over the weekend of the 15th/16th August.
Thieves forced entry to the door of a cabin, vandalising some of the equipment and making off with a small amount of petty cash and a digital camera.
Barry Edis, a staff member at 4AllSeasons garden centre, said of the attack ‘We are absolutely shocked.’
‘As a charity, you don’t expect to be immune to crime, but it really does take someone of low character to steal from a centre which is used primarily for the enrichment and education of people with disabilities.’
‘This centre is a not-for-profit business, and so every penny that we make is reinvested into educating, and in some instances creating paid placements for people with disabilities. The money that was stolen would’ve gone towards helping them. It is our clients that are being potentially deprived of opportunities because of an act of senseless criminality.’
‘Whilst much of the damage done is minimal, several doors had been forced, causing damage to their locks, and the door to the cabin has been extensively damaged, and is likely to need replacing. Furthermore, a window from the nearby Health & Wellbeing Centre was forced open, and damage done to two minibuses parked nearby through force applied to their rear doors. ‘
‘The snack shack, which is for the use of service users on their breaks, was also ransacked. All in all there was a tremendous amount of disruption to the activities we would normally be doing. Obviously there is the cost of covering the repairs coupled with the stress placed on the service users who saw the damage done to things that they have helped build and operate.’
‘Even something as small as an old digital camera may seem to not be very valuable, but we used it to record what the service users had done – their achievements. It’s absolutely awful.’
If anybody has any information relating to this crime, or witnessed any unusual activity in the vicinity of the Cromwell Health & Wellbeing Centre over the weekend of 15th/16th August, they are requested to contact Humberside Police quoting Crime Number AA2132300/2015.
