Walking for Health Initiatives are growing!

On 01 October 2015 we relaunched the ‘Step in the Right Direction’ Health Walk in order to publicise the new start time of the walk and the growth of partnership working involved.

We have allegiances with Care Plus Group Adult Learning Disability Therapy and Admin Team, McMillan Cancer Survivorship Team, Alzheimer’s Society, Lincs Inspire, Change 4 Life - NE Lincs Council Team, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Therapy Teams and the Breast Cancer Support Team, plus a growing number of volunteers without whose support and dedication we could not manage.

These partnerships have made our walk more inclusive and much more sustainable. Working together we have been able to strengthen the rota so we can have 4 walk leaders on the walk each week enabling the walkers to walk safely at the pace they need. The faster walkers can ‘steam’ ahead and go a bit further and the steadier less confident walkers can walk as far and as fast as they require, and we all meet for a cuppa at the end.

With the vast experience of the professionals and volunteers involved we are able to offer the service users any extra support they may require, so we really are more than just walk leaders.

We now have walkers walking regularly with us that have learning disabilities, strokes, hip replacements, respiratory problems, cancer survivors, dementia and arthritis to name but a few of the conditions of the people that are becoming regular attenders. Some of these users have asked to become volunteer walk leaders in their own right which is a fantastic achievement for them.

Alongside our walk there is a variety of other walking for health walks in N E Lincolnshire

All walks are free of charge due to being led by volunteer Health Walk Leaders.  There may be a small fee for refreshments depending on the walk venue visited. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on the walks and any children under 16 must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.

Buddy Up with Bosom Buddies

Our walk is for people affected by breast cancer, including people undergoing treatment, survivors, their friends, family and children.

From the 04 October we will be meeting every Sunday at 10am at Cleethorpes Pier. Our walk is about chatting and having fun; we all know a positive outlook is the biggest part of feeling well, coping and moving on.  The walk leaders have either undergone treatment, work closely with or support Bosom Buddies. So come along for some fun and exercise, we can also sit down and have a cuppa after walking!
